I joined the Professional Photographers of Canada(PPOC) www.ppoc.ca a couple of years ago with a thirst for knowledge into the world of photography. I had a desire to better myself as well as wanting to achieve accreditation. Being accredited meant that I had succeeded in producing a high quality product that I could be proud of as well as reaching a level of compentency that is respected in the business.
Before I joined, I sought out a member of the Association, Trevor Owen of Regina, to provide mentorship and guidance throughout my journey to learn. I remember saying to him, "the membership is so expensive" and his response was, "You can't afford not to join." I realize now he was right and after two years of attending two to three workshops a year including my first major PPOC conference in Winnipeg in 2014, it has been nothing short of valuable. I have been surrounded by talent of unbelieveable standards as well as meeting so many great people that I am able to connect with through social media, email, phone and in person. I can reach out to ask questions and seek advice on such things as photographic technique, marketing, pricing and image critique. The members are willing to help you out even when they are busy in their own business taking wonderful photos for their clients. Photography is something you can grow and develop and work towards achieving a better standard each and everytime.
I am ecstatic to report I received my 1st accreditation in high key photography this past week. This was something I wanted, but seemed so unachievable. I can now call myself an accredited member of the Professional Photographers of Canada as well as having the opportunity to enter competitions at both the provincial and national levels. My next major achievement will be having an image accepted at a national level competition. Stay tuned in the spring to find out! Wish me luck.

I am going to leave you with this. Before you think something may be too unattainable, too difficult, or too expensive, look at the value in what you may be gaining instead of what you may be losing.
