How to look fabulous in photos using light
What is your perception of what photography really is all about? As a photographer when I sit and analyze my work or someone else’s work, I am looking for light versus shadow on the subject’s face. How did the photographer control the light to make the subject look their best? I can basically describe it as a recording of light, which is what photography really is, painting with light. There are six lighting patterns you can accomplish as listed in the article below. You will be pleasantly surprised on how fabulous you can make yourself look in your photos by learning these six simple light patterns and practising them. You don’t need fancy strobes lights, or an expensive camera, all you need is natural or ambient light (the light surrounding your subject) especially for those selfies. Try this experiment. Stand in front of a window with your smartphone with the camera on facing you and turn around (360 degrees) and watch how the light falls on your face and take a photo (the one that makes YOU look your best). Try this with a friend and take their photo and see the results.

Merely owning a camera never made a photographer no more than owning a paint brush ever made an artist. Photographers learn, practise, and learn some more and never quit learning.
